Chris Hagemann
Southern California native Chris Hagemann was born with a love of music and singing in her soul. Painfully shy however, she didn’t have the confidence to share much of that fact with anyone. Her early years were instead focused on what came naturally to her; competitive sports. She made the basketball team at Loyola Marymount University and was on her way to becoming a pro athlete. And then a friend introduced her to a different kind of coach, vocal coach Lisa Popeil, who changed her game. From this exposure, Chris gained the confidence to pursue her innate passion. She hung up her sneakers, grabbed a mic and never looked back.
Chris has sung in several local cover bands as well as an originals band, in which she wrote a lot of the material. Her influences span generations – Etta James, Joni Mitchell, Alison Moyet, Bonnie Raitt, Annie Lenox, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Jennifer Nettles, The Civil Wars and Adele. Her love of different genres and stylistic approaches energize her as a vocalist with The Story. As the group was forming she felt the band’s song choices possessed a powerful sense of story that engaged and moved audiences. This became the inspiration behind the name The Story.
